Thaxted Bowling Club celebrated its golden
anniversary in 2015 and is going from strength to strength. In 2019 the
club saw success in the Widdop Cup as finalists and promotion for the ĎBí
team. The menís sections will again have three teams playing in the North
West Essex League and a team in the Herts and Essex Seniors League.
The Ladies section have also had a successful year with a full set of
fixtures and entries in various Essex County competitions.
The Club is open to men and women, young
and old, able and disabled. We provide a unique venue where everyone can
enjoy the game of bowls whilst making and maintaining friendships along the
We have a six-rink lawn green and Clubhouse
with a range of facilities. The Clubhouse has an ongoing refurbishment
programme externally and internally, which in recent years has seen a new
fitted kitchen an insulated up to date cellar area for the fully licensed
bar which satisfies the thirst of members on those summer afternoons and
evenings. Our green had new side boards fitted all round with edges
reinstated in 2015 and paving areas re-laid, 2018/19 saw some significant
work with the lifting and relaying of our patio area to the front of the
clubhouse giving improved access to the clubhouse and greens as well as a
great area to sit and enjoy the bowling. Our Irrigation tank and shed to
the rear of the clubhouse has been relocated providing additional space for
two disabled parking spaces, with a new entrance giving improved
disable access to the clubhouse and provision of disabled toilet
The summer season commences in late April
and continues until late September. Members can play as little or as often
as they wish, with a variety of men's, ladies and senior fixtures on offer
plus a number of mixed friendlies. In addition, there are a number of club
and external competitions, plus a regular Monday club night roll-up with an
informal roll up / social Fridays. During the winter months there is an
active Carpet Bowls section and Cards Nights are held once a month on a

welcome and the Club makes special provision for prospective members to
come along and play on Monday evenings, at 6pm, with no requirement for
'the right kit' you just need a flat pair of shoes, we have plenty of bowls
available to borrow for the evening. We have trained coaches who can
offer a fun sound introduction to the game. Whether new to the game or
an experienced player, come along and give us a try.
