CLUB EVENTS COMING UP

Thaxted Bowling Club celebrated its golden anniversary in 2015 and is going from strength to strength. In 2019 the club saw success in the Widdop Cup as finalists and promotion for the ĎBí team. The menís sections will again have three teams playing in the North West Essex League and a team in the Herts and Essex Seniors League.  The Ladies section have also had a successful year with a full set of fixtures and entries in various Essex County competitions.

The Club is open to men and women, young and old, able and disabled. We provide a unique venue where everyone can enjoy the game of bowls whilst making and maintaining friendships along the way.

We have a six-rink lawn green and Clubhouse with a range of facilities. The Clubhouse has an ongoing refurbishment programme externally and internally, which in recent years has seen a new fitted kitchen an insulated up to date cellar area for the fully licensed bar which satisfies the thirst of members on those summer afternoons and evenings. Our green had new side boards fitted all round with edges reinstated in 2015 and paving areas re-laid, 2018/19 saw some significant work with the lifting and relaying of our patio area to the front of the clubhouse giving improved access to the clubhouse and greens as well as a great area to sit and enjoy the bowling. Our Irrigation tank and shed to the rear of the clubhouse has been relocated providing additional space for two disabled parking spaces, with a new entrance giving improved disable access to the clubhouse and provision of disabled toilet facilities.

The summer season commences in late April and continues until late September. Members can play as little or as often as they wish, with a variety of men's, ladies and senior fixtures on offer plus a number of mixed friendlies. In addition, there are a number of club and external competitions, plus a regular Monday club night roll-up with an informal roll up / social Fridays. During the winter months there is an active Carpet Bowls section and Cards Nights are held once a month on a Friday evening.

New members are always very welcome and the Club makes special provision for prospective members to come along and play on Monday evenings, at 6pm, with no requirement for 'the right kit' you just need a flat pair of shoes, we have plenty of bowls available to borrow for the evening. We have trained coaches who can offer a fun sound introduction to the game. Whether new to the game or an experienced player, come along and give us a try.

You can contact the secretary or any member of the committee for further details.

We look forward to seeing you.
